Reconnaissance

This is a limited edition print. Only 100 prints per size on Archival Ilford Fine Art Smooth Pearl, 270gsm.

Each print is signed, numbered in archival sleeve and conservation board.

The core photo was taken during sunset at one of my favourite beaches, Sorrento Back Beach, in the Mornington Peninsula (Victoria, Australia).

During high tide, the water’s quite wild and great for bathing, surfing and bodyboarding. But the real magic for me happens when the tide pulls its curtain back to reveal a colossal, intricate network of richly diverse rockpools.

With above and underwater caves and tunnels, the living, fluorescent, sticky-slurping treasures to be found, are endless, and your sky becomes the one at your feet and your world the one below.

The original artwork of this was part of the Pat Cronin Foundation’s “Be Wise” charity exhibition in 2021. Its theme called for me to include it in this collection, as it brings to light how if we focus on what we find common joy in, we may not focus so much on our differences.

The title “Reconnaissance” is in direct contrast to its original often-violent association in military operations. Here it juxtaposes with the innocence of children exploring their surroundings for the pure goal of finding wonder.
