Within every window lives a little universe—an untold story, a secret flame, a life quietly unfolding behind the glass. This work began at the back window of my old studio at Montsalvat (Australia’s oldest living arts commune), when my days still rippled beside the pool. Now, my studio sits opposite the peacocks, where feathers flash like small celebrations in the sun.
The hand-built mudbrick walls hold echoes of artists who came before: apprentices of wonder, drinking deeply from their masters’ wells of inspiration. Their presence lingers in the clay, the light, the hush between birdsong—a gentle reminder that making art is a kind of gathering, a fire passed from hand to hand.
For years, this place has sustained me, helping me create a space where others, too, can arrive to learn, make, and share in the bright mystery of art-making. From my studio-window photograph, the central image began to bloom: hand-cut collage, gelli-plate printed fragments, and flashes of gold foil joining together like found treasures. Look through the window, and the world waits—many lives, many stories, and perhaps a little magic still unseen.
