How can a thousand tiny, broken pieces become whole again? By finding one another. A mosaic welcomes every shard, holding the fractured with reverence until something new begins to shine: a pattern of belonging.
I first found this mosaic at the Magic House of my then-92-year-old friend, June Engish. I was nearing 50 and standing at the edge of a new season myself, feeling like a loose fragment in search of where I might fit. June and her late husband, Kevin, had spent decades lovingly shaping their enchanting mudbrick home in Eltham, where care, craftsmanship, and quiet artistic magic seemed to breathe from every corner.
Set into an outside wall, the mosaic glimmered like a small spell: a reminder that brokenness need not be hidden or erased. Sometimes, it is simply waiting to be gathered into a more beautiful whole.
