Ever wondered who you’ve become since stepping into motherhood? Longing for a moment to pause, reflect, and reconnect with the woman inside the mother?
Join us for a transformative afternoon of creative reflection at Storyholding Studio, nestled within the enchanting grounds of Montsalvat, Eltham. This unique 5-hour workshop is co-facilitated by Rochelle Van Der Merwe (Storyholding) and Jodie Garth (Cherish & Bloom), a collage artist and ICF-accredited Mama Rising motherhood coach.
In this gentle, welcoming space, you’ll be introduced to the concept of matrescence – the profound, often hidden process of becoming a mother. Matrescence isn’t just a single transition; it’s an ongoing unfolding that is experienced through every stage of motherhood.
All mothers are welcome. Whether your first child is still a baby, you’re pregnant with your third, you have school-aged children or teens, or you now find yourself navigating an empty nest, this workshop is for you. Here, you’ll be invited to reflect on your unique motherhood journey and the layers of self that continue to shift and grow.
Guided by the metaphor of cocoons, butterflies, and transformation, you’ll explore your personal story through a butterfly-themed collage activity. Using a specially curated selection of Jodie Garth’s signature painted papers and Rochelle’s collection of vintage books, papers, and ephemera, you’ll create a tangible piece of art that celebrates your many layers and evolving identity.
No previous art experience is needed. You’ll be gently guided step by step, with space to share (if you wish) and connect with other mothers walking their own paths.
Leave with a renewed sense of self, a beautiful artwork to take home, and perhaps a little more grace for the journey ahead.

Water bottles are highly encouraged. Please make sure they can safely close to avoid spillage on paper materials.Although light refreshments will be provided for sessions that exceed 2hrs, including basic tea/coffee-making facilities, you’re welcome to BYO plate/preferred drink(s) to share.
Any words (poems, lyrics, letters, literature) & photos/prints/paper materials you may wish to incorporate into your art piece. However, the wide, eclectic selection of visual material I’ll provide, will be more than enough if you choose to come as a clean slate (the latter HIGHLY recommended)!

Montsalvat’s Opening hours to the public are from Wed – Sundays, 10am-4pm.
If your Collage Session falls WITHIN this timeframe, please announce yourself at Montsalvat Reception where your name will be on the guestlist.
The Receptionist will guide you towards your adventure at STORYHOLDING Poolside Studio.
If your Collage Session falls OUTSIDE this timeframe (i.e. on a Monday/Tuesday or in the evening), an email will be sent upon your booking confirmation for special entrance instructions.

Where is the workshop located?
All workshops are located at Storyholding studio (Montsalvat), 7 Hillcrest Ave, Eltham VIC 3095, Australia.
Cancellations and refunds
If we cancel the workshop: you are entitled to a full refund.
If you can’t attend: you’re welcome to send someone in your place or a refund can be requested 5 days before class starts. Free of charge.
A credit note can be requested anytime before the class starts. Free of charge.
No changes will be allowed after these times.
If you are a no show: you will forfeit your booking and no refund will apply.

Anyone partaking in any classes or coming to any events at Storyholding or organised by Storyholding must agree to the below terms and conditions.
Liability waiver
I agree to take on full responsibility for any damages, injuries and for physical and/or personal property, which I might incur whilst participating in classes and/or events organised by Storyholding.
Photo and video
I agree to give Storyholding unrestricted publishing rights for any photographs or videos taken at Storyholding classes and events or on Storyholding premises. (For use of Storyholding marketing materials).
Bookings
To secure your place in a class, course or workshop, full payment at the time of booking is required.
