This core photo was taken at Deer Park, in Cape Town, during the height of summer in January 2019. It’s at the foot of Table Mountain, where I’ve also lived for many of my most formative young adult years.

As steady as the mountains cradling The Mother City, the constant presence of tyre swings is a blueprint of childhood all over the world.

Regardless of age, they rock you into timeless worlds of non-doing, of what it could perhaps be like to fly, and before you know it, you’re awakening from real life into a daydream of all that you are, and you are the hot breath pushing against the wind in your face as you stare at…
